Medical Devices Directive must not stifle innovation
Marina is one of the lead negotiators on the EU’s revised Medical Devices Directive. Medical devices cover everything from replacement hips to operating tables and scalpels.
Marina believes that EU rules need to put patient safety first while not placing extra administrative burdens on manufacturing. To find out more about the challenges which businesses face, Marina visited Eschmann Equipment’s production facility in Sussex.
There she learned that if the regulatory environment were more onerous, manufacturers like Eschmann would be reluctant to invest money in new products and may even consider choosing to manufacture outside the European Union. This would mean the loss of hundreds of British jobs.
Marina pledged to ensure that the new EU rules are proportionate and that they encourage companies to innovate and grow.
