ELECTION YEAR: OUR
TEAM'S READY FOR BATTLE |
LONDON'S
Conservative prospective Euro candidates are ready for
action, Shadow Foreign Secretary William Hague told
a packed room as he kicked off European Election year
with a fundraising dinner.
He was the star speaker at the event at
the Portman Hotel, near Marble Arch on January 20th,
which raised a very healthy sum towards the election
campaign.
Voters go to the polls in Britain on June
4th to pick their Euro MPs. And Mr Hague said the the
importance of this election could not be understated
because of vital constitutional issues over the EU.
The event was supported by a number of MPs,
including former MEP Theresa Villiers - who is now an
MP and shadow minister for transport.
Marina Yannakoudakis said: "This election
will be vital - both because of our battle for a referendum
and for our fight to keep the Pound. EU Commission |

President Jose Manuel Barroso he has been told by 'people
who matter in Britain' that they are thinking of scrapping
the Pound, just as our unelected Labour Business Secretary
Lord Mandelson happens to say the government's goal
should be to join the euro. |
Some people will try to exploit the effects of the recession
to campaign for the euro.
"But it's important that we preserve Britain's
economic independence - even if we are not happy with
the way our own Labour government is handling the crisis."

| Ireland’s
voting again |
IRELAND
has been told to hold another referendum on the
Lisbon Treaty – in spite of rejecting it
last year. The EU has disgracefully refused to
accept the “no” vote and this time
wants the “right” result – meaning
the “yes” result Brussels wants. But
at least the Irish get the chance to vote, unlike
Britain! |

DOSE
OF COMMON SENSE: Cllr Eileen Kinnear,
Dr Rachel Joyce, Marina Yannakoudakis and Cllr Don
Billson in Harrow-on-the-Hill |
|
MARINA Yannakoudakis has been busy canvassing across the capital
and joined prospective Conservative MP candidate Dr Rachel Joyce
on the doorstep in Harrow West. Rachel, who works for the NHS,
has been working hard in the constituency.
Rachel told her: "My team and I have noticed how angry people are at how they
have been let down by Labour. The reception we get on the doorstep
is fantastic".
Marina said: "Rachel has a hard working team
of councillors and activists and she will make a brilliant MP.
I look forward to Gordon Brown calling a General Election so
the country gets the change we so desperately need.' |

EU
COUNTRIES GO IT
ALONE ON FINANCE |
AS the credit crunch has turned into recession, EU countries
have taken their own measures to combat the crisis, rather than
working together.
And Marina Yannakoudakis thinks it is right that
countries have made their own decisions.
She said: “Ireland was first to decide to
guarantee deposits in domestic banks, followed shortly by other
EU nations. While the ‘big four’ countries –
Britain, France, Germany and Italy - said they would work together,
they soon made their own arrangements.
“This crisis is yet another example of countries
putting self interest to the forefront when the chips are down.
And, at the end of the day, I could not argue with this. Every
nation’s first priority must be the good of its own people.
We are in for a long haul in this recession, and Gordon Brown
selling the family silver is not going to help. His approach
of borrowing will result in us becoming a nation of debtors
with the next generation fighting to pay off his loans.
“We need help with our businesses to see this
through, less business tax and a more flexible approach to running
for small businesses.”
