A right turn in Islington

Watch out Gordon Brown – traditional Labour territory is no longer a safe electoral bet!
Marina Yannakoudakis took to the streets of Islington to go canvassing in Bunhill Ward and said: "It has long been held by Labour but now looks like one the Conservatives can win."
She joined with candidates from the Conservative London North East City Seats initiative. Marina was pleased to see how Islington Conservative chairman Duncan Webster is leading an active and vibrant organisation after a merger between the old Islington South and Finsbury and Islington North associations in a reorganisation.

YOUR EURO TEAM!

A clear code
on expenses
Conservative MEPs and candidates for the 2009 elections will sign up to a new code on the use of expenses and allowances after action by David Cameron.
This unilateral act will mean that, regardless of weaknesses in the EU's rules, Conservatives will follow a stricter code.
Marina Yannakoudakis welcomed the code and said: "As a party we have to work to restore the public's trust. I would welcome Labour following suit on this and the LibDems too, who have a new code but do not intend to implement it until 2009 when the rules will change anyway.'
Under the new code MEPs will have to submit expenses to an independent accountant to certify that they comply with both party and Brussels rules.
Standby for a visit from your London Conservative Euro campaign team!
The eight prospective MEP candidates met on July 19 to agree on strategy for the 2009 elections.
A top priority will be meeting Conservative party members across London and campaigning in as many associations as possible.
A conference on London's priorities in
Europe will be held at Canary Wharf on November 15 and a major fundraising event is planned for January 2009.
The meeting helped build team spirit. Marina Yannakoudakis said:
''Each member of the team offers an individual approach which complements the whole. "I feel we have a strong, experienced and professional team for 2009.''
Magnificent Mehfuz!
Marina helped Conservative candidate Mehfuz Ahmed in his successful by-election battle in Church Street ward on Westminster Council. Mehfuz won the election on July 24 with a majority of 303. This ward has NEVER been Conservative before, so all credit to Mehfuz and his brilliant campaign team.
